A VoePass ATR 72-212A(500) registered PS-VPB operating flight 2Z2283 (PTB2283) from Cascavel to São Paulo crashed northwest of São Paulo on 9 August 2024. The airline has confirmed all 57 passengers and four crew members were killed in the crash. Video captured by multiple bystanders appears to show the aircraft in a spin with little-to-no forward momentum as it fell to the ground.
VoePass flight 2283
VoePass flight 2283 departed Cascavel at 14:58 UTC (11:58 am local time) and climbed to a cruising altitude of 17,000 feet 24 minutes into flight. The aircraft continued to cruise toward São Paulo at 17,000 feet until 16:21 UTC when ADS-B indicates a brief loss in altitude, followed a brief gain in altitude, followed by a steep and terminal descent. The highest reported descent rate was -24,064 feet per minute at 2024-08-09 16:22:08Z.413. The elapsed time from the indication of a problem to the final data received by Flightradar24 was 89 seconds.
Flightradar24 considers the ground speed data sent by the aircraft’s transponder to be generally unreliable for this flight. As such, it was not included on the above graph. The aircraft’s transponder did send True airspeed data, which we have processed from the granular data. The graph below shows the last 30 minutes of True airspeed data received from the aircraft.

PS-VPB is a 14 year old ATR72-500 initially delivered to Belle Air in 2010. VoePass acquired the aircraft in 2022.

Investigative updates
10 August 2024 —Brazilian investigators have recovered and begun processing the data from the aircraft’s flight data and co*ckpit voice recorders.
